Have you ever witnessed your cat just stare and follow something invisible across the room?
(Even more disconcerting when two of them do it in unison!)
As a medium, I can “cheat” and tune in to figure out if a spirit is present when they do this, but do cats have the ability to sense spirits?
I believe they do, and it’s maybe not as woo woo as you’d think. They do in fact have biological superpowers in contrast to us mere humans.
Cats have the ability to see six times better in dim light than humans, they can see subtle changes in light that we don’t.
According to some studies, cats can also see the ultraviolet light spectrum, which means they frequently perceive things we can’t.
Cats hear at frequencies 1.5 times above and below our ability to hear, so many of the devices we take for granted as a normal and silent part of life actually produce a sound that cats hear. My cat Freya sometimes likes to rest her head on speakers when they are on standby, soothing herself with the frequency, maybe just like purring is self healing.
Their sense of smell is also 9–16 times greater than humans. They also have a secondary scent-collecting organ called the Jacobson’s or vomeronasal organ, which allows them to smell things we can’t. You’ll notice them using it when their mouth is partially open with their upper lip curled, known as the Flehmen’s response. We’ve all seen videos online of this reaction!
Cat whiskers detect small changes in air currents, so maybe when a temperature drops suddenly in their environment, they detect that before we do?
From a scientific perspective, according to a study conducted by researchers at City University London, UK cats and dogs can (and other animals) can see frequencies humans cannot.
Cats, dogs, and other mammals are thought to see in ultraviolet light, UV light is the wave length beyond the visible light from red to violet that humans can see. Humans have a lens that blocks UV from reaching the retina.
Have you experienced anything with a pet that connected you with a loved one in spirit or a warning that you simply could not ignore?
I’ve had many people tell me that their dogs or cats alert them to a supernatural presence by barking, growling or staring at nothing, or by backing away from something that cannot be seen.
Have you seen something they react to that you can’t explain logically? I trust that when my furry friends react to something, it is very real indeed.
